Demand an End to the War on Drugs
by: Thinking Clearly
Obama and Romney have come to represent exactly what is wrong in Washington when it comes to the war on drugs. None of the politicians in Washington are willing to admit to failure. The drug war is a failure and now serves only to feed the political and corporate machine that has been running it. They themselves are the only ones profiting.
The devastation caused by turning America into a prison State has not served the public at large and has done more to damage the civil rights of minority American citizens than Martin Luther King could ever have imagined.
America will need to demand a discussion about ending the drug war and ending the prohibition against marijuana. We pay our politicians quite well in drug war wages and I am afraid it has affected their sensibilities and hearing on the subject. Arresting Americans and putting them in jail for non violent drug offenses is a disaster and it must end. The experiment of trying to modify American's behavior by use of force has failed as it has in the past with earlier attempts at prohibition. According to a new poll conducted by the Huffington Post, 59% of the American public wants marijuana legalized.
The hypocrisy of watching our President campaign over a glass of ale while silently espousing the arrest and incarceration of non violent citizens for drugs is beyond belief.
I will be happy to see the day when the White House recipe for pot brownies is printed alongside its famous recipe for beer.
