Abolish the ONDCP

Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske nominated by Obama for new job

by: Thinking Clearly

On Friday it was reported by Eric E. Sterling, President of the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation, that President Obama has nominated Gil Kerlikowske Director of the ONDCP for a new job as Customs Commissioner.

The unanswered question is not about customs. The unanswered question is what does President Obama intend to do with the ONDCP?

My own answer to that question is that until the federal government allows States to control their own policies related to drug control, there is no federal control over drugs in actuality. Only an office whose design is to ensure that prohibition continues into perpetuity.

The ONDCP should be abolished in favor of an immense savings to the American taxpayers. The office is obsolete and is nothing more than a Nixon era drug war relic. Abolishing the ONDCP would be one firm step towards actually ending the real war on drugs.
